Back Door Privatisation

For a while aforehand I started to consider the Conservative party to be a credible opposition, and even secretly wanted them to get into power for a change so that Labour has time to get their act together and re-group. However whenever I mellow out over conservative viewpoints, I find myself confronted with evidence that confirms my worst prejudices against them. The Tories are planning to build 5000 new privately owned schools to replace failing state ones. Thinly disguised privatisation, and another foot in the door for neoliberalism. It’s a daft idea that will never work. They say that these schools will be run by parents, charities and private firms, which is basically a back door entrance for opportunists to get a chance to force their dubious ideologies on the innocent and susceptible. Charities? Creationists will leap at the chance fill children’s minds with their insane pseudoscience. Parents? Roll on fundamentalist Islamic academies. These Tory idiots really do represent the worst of the credible political classes (apart from Boris Johnson). Who will save us from them? Perhaps the Third Way of Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats will save us? Somehow I doubt it. I watched some of Clegg’s speech at the Lib Dem conference, and his style of speech and manner of elocution was the exact same as that of some of the religious fundamentalists I have listened to at full rant. It is the voice of the sort of zealous passion that will not listen to reason when reason is needed. Basically it’s time to close all hatches and prepare for the storm. We need a change in government as a kind of reset for the country. I give the Conservatives one term before everyone remembers how shit they are and vote in David Milliband.
