Don't Judge a Book by its Cover (especially if it's about acting)
The most convincing argument for the 'Don't judge a book by its cover' school of thought comes from the world of acting. It takes a certain type of person to have both the ability and the desire to act. Its not a precise character trait, more a kind of personality bandwidth. According the rule of 'appearance reflects personality' that lies so deeply ingrained in our minds, actors should all look similar, and yet a casting director can find an actor to suit any role. Who would have thought that somebody as supposedly butch as Bruce Willis would do something as stereotypically poncey as enroll in an acting school? Just think of all the films you have seen and the wide variey of roles and characters portrayed. Despite the wide range of characters they play, despite the wide range of appearances they have, they all have one mayjor thing in common; the abiliy and desire to act.
